Join us for an engaging Rivertalk hosted by Karla Smith, President of Suffolk River Heritage, featuring a presentation by Larry Saint on the history of the oyster dredge Chesapeake.

Larry Saint will delve into the fascinating history of the Chesapeake, sharing insights into its role in the oyster industry. Chesapeake was built by Captain Lip Johnson on Chuckatuck Creek and launched on the Spring tide in 1936. As part of the presentation, he will also display his model of this historic vessel and talk about the building methods used by Captain Lip Johnson at the Johnson shipyard on Chuckatuck Creek.
